Global Leadership Profile
About:
The Global Leadership Profile (GLP) is a psychometric tool from the field of psychology known as Vertical Development. It measures a person’s current framework of thinking and explores some of the mindsets and paradigms through which they may be experiencing the world.
In particular, the GLP profiles a person within a range of seven developmental stages (or thinking frameworks) important to leadership. These stages are based on the research of Bill Torbert and Global Leadership Associates and are known as “action-logics”:
Research has consistently demonstrated that as leaders grow through the action-logics they develop greater capacity to influence personal, familial, team, organisational, and even societal transformation.
After completing the profile, a report is produced that includes:
an analysis of the person’s approach to problem resolution including how they make sense of events
an analysis of their distinctive, prior and emergent action-logics
an encapsulation of patterns that are uniquely theirs
suggested strategies that may contribute to transformational action and inquiry.
The person then attends a debrief session with a GLP-trained coach to:
understand the implications of their GLP from a personal, interpersonal and organisational perspective so they can apply practical tactics to issues of daily life
draw out their individual approach to problem resolution, surfacing emergent, prior and fall-back action-logics
explore next steps in their development.
Benefits:
✓ The profile, and its companion report, help us understand our current frameworks of thinking (action- logics). We are then able to make better sense of ourselves, others, and the contexts/systems around us. It helps us question our current mindsets and paradigms and begin to shift them if appropriate.
✓ It is a powerful reminder that how we currently think is not how we will always think. This typically provokes individuals to open-up to greater personal growth.
✓ The reports offer coaches a rich resource to draw from that can lead to many powerful coaching inquiries and explorations.
✓ The seven stages of leadership can be used as a shared language and context for leadership development within organisations.
✓ By measuring and analysing action-logics we are able to see more clearly the subtle dynamics at work within leaders, teams and organisations. Working on these can lead to deep transformations.
✓ The impact is further increased when the GLP is used in teams or within leadership development programmes.
